Never Underestimate a 2-year-old

Some times you don't know whether to laugh at or to scold your toddler. Today we had one of those moments. Micah likes to watch me as I get ready in the mornings. I was busy putting on my make-up and not paying attention to him. I glanced over at him and he had managed to get the top off of my mascara and was applying it to his eyes. He had the right idea anyway. I realize that he learned a new skill today...How to screw caps off. It was so cute that I could not get mad at him. Instead, I made a quick dash for the camera. Before he was finished, he had applied makeup to his frog blanket as well. I guess he thought the frog could use a little makeover.

Big Boy Bed Part II

We did it! We made it all night in our new bed. I am so excited and I think Micah is too. He feels big! We proceeded with our regular bed time routine last night at 7:00, with a few more emphasis on the big boy bed. Then both went back there and tucked him in. He had his special pillow, blanket, a cup of water and a book. We covered him up, gave him a kiss and left the room. When I looked back behind my shoulder as I left, my heart just melted. He looked so sweet lying there. He didn't seem as much like my baby anymore. To my suprise, he did not get up and I did not hear anything else from him. I went in there at 7:30 and he was lying on his side snoring. He was so cute. I can't help but brag....I am so proud of him. Well, he made it all night!!!! I hope the transition continues to go this smooth and if it does, then I am hoping that all the other transitions with having a 2-year-old will do the same. I won't hold my breath on that one though!

Big Boy Bed

Today was the first "real attempt to get Micah to sleep in his new bed and room. The first time that I tried to sneak him in there while he was asleep did not prove successful. He woke-up a little and was scared to be in a new place. I have been putting off the transition since then, but the need to get him adjusted to his new bed has been in the back of my mind for a while. He loves his crib and sleeps so well in it. I just hated to mess up a good thing. Today I just decided to do it! When we got home for school, we found his special pillow and blanket. I laid him down, covered him up and told him that it was "night night" time and not to get up. I shut the door behind me. I checked back just a couple of minutes later and heard him talking a little bit and playing. That was not a good sign, but I decided to give him a few minutes to see if he would settle down. I went back there about 10 minutes later and did not hear a sound and decided to check. I figured I would find him asleep on the floor. I was shocked to find him curled up with his blanket and pillow on his bed. I had to run and get my camera and take a picture. When he woke up from his nap, he called my name a couple of times. When I went in there to get him, he was lying in his bed waiting patiently. I was so proud of him for being a big boy. His reward was hanging Wiggles stickers in his room and a cookie at snack time. We tucked him into his big boy bed again tonight. I have not heard anything since we left the room, so I am hoping that when I check on him in a couple of minutes he will be asleep. The next test will be to see if he will stay in his bed all night.

Only in Pictures...

The weirdest thing happened to me in the early hours of the morning. It was some what of a restless night. I am having those often these days. I was up either from having had a recent visit to the bathroom or having heard Micah over the monitor. You will never believe what happened next. I have only seen this kind of thing in pictures and have doubted that events like these ever even happen. The baby was up, moving around and the next thing I know he jabs his little wrist out so far that I am able to grab it between my thumb and index finger. It is hard to describe that experience in words. I was holding my unborn babies hand. Simply amazing!!! I know that it was his hand, from what the doctor told me about his positioning yesterday. It was so tiny, only about two inches or so in width. I was so stunned! I gripped onto it for a second and then rub it down and coaxed him back to sleep. It was one of those things that will probably never happen again, but will be what I remember for years to come when I am reminded of this pregnancy.

Busy....But Fun Friday!

This morning, Micah played with his friends Tommy and Trey while I had my OB check-up. After that we met my friend Meridith and Micah's friend Tate and drove to Toccoa Falls. The day could not have been more perfect for our trip around campus and to the falls. We delivered flyers about the marriage conference at our church around campus and then took a hike to the falls. The boys enjoyed walking down the trail, playing with rocks and doing all the things that little toddler boys do. This was Micah's first time visiting the falls. It was neat walking back there with him, knowing that that was where Charlie and I met. One day we will share with him the history behind Toccoa Falls College. After our hike, we took the boys to McDonalds for lunch and more play time on the playground. They had a blast together, but are now exhausted. I am sure that Micah will sleep for quite a while this afternoon.

Micah's Busy Week

Well, this has been a busy week for all of us. We spent Sunday recovering from the Wiggles Party. Monday, Micah celebrated again at MMO. After Micah's nap, we played with his new toys outside while "da da" cleaned the gutters. We also celebrated with him here at the house that night...just the three of us. Tuesday, we took him to Chuck E. Cheeses. They gave him a balloon and birthday hat. He had a great time, but we didn't have to spend a dime, because he just enjoyed doing all the free stuff. I guess we should take advantage of that while we can. Wednesday, we went to preschool, had therapy and then his two-year-old check-up. We are seeing a new doctor now, because his former doctor, which we really loved is no longer with the practice. The new doctor that we picked did a spinal tap on Micah when he was 5 months old, but we had never seen him in the office. I was very impressed with the doctor. Micah seemed to really like him as well. It really helped that he had a picture of "Ra Ra" (Elmo) on his stethoscope. That really helped smooth things over when it came time to examine him. You could tell that he had a special way with children this age. Our biggest concern with Micah at this point is his speech. He said that as long as he is getting the therapy and is progressing, then he saw no need to worry at this point. He is going to see him back in 6 months to evaluate that once more. Micah has also been having some nose bleeds. He said that Micah has an infection in his nose and gave us some medicine to fix that up as well. Hopefully this will cure the never ceasing runny nose that he has. I have my doctor's appointment tomorrow and then I will take him to Toccoa Falls College to hang some flyers up around the school for our marriage conference at church. If the weather is nice, we will spend most of the morning strolling around there and then take a walk back to see the waterfalls. Wow! Busy week!!! I love planning and participating in birthdays, but I am also glad when all the new toys are put away and the last piece of cake has been eaten.

More Birthday Pictures

Charlie's friend Jared sent us these pictures today. He works for the newspaper and has an awesome camera. I thought they were great pictures, so I couldn't help but post them.

Janie Grace and Micah

Our friends Kelly and Jacob are currently at the hospital having their second daughter. I kept their 1-year-old daughter Janie Grace today. Micah loved taking a bath with his little friend. They are both in bed now. They were exhausted, after playing together all day.

The Date is Set!

I went to the OB today. When I got there, I was running a fever. I have had a sinus infection now for 2 weeks and did not sleep very much last night. The baby has also been moving less this week and the doctor said it was because I have been sick and trying to fight off infection. So, bless his heart, he is feeling a little under the weather as well. I hope that is all that it is. They have put me on an antibiotic to once and for all clear this infection up and get me and baby feeling better.

We also scheduled my C-Section today. If the baby waits that long, then his birthday is going to be April 16th. It is not the best of timing for several reasons. That is the week of the CRCT at school and Charlie is expected to be in the classroom, unless he is dying or witnessing the birth of his new baby. My mom has payroll at work that week and she is the only one in the office that can cut checks. And then there is the problem as to what to do with Micah when we are in the hospital for 3 or 4 days. We have about nine weeks to figure these things out, so I will not stress now. I do like the date though...April 16th. My birthday is May 16th, so that will be easy to remember.

Besides the infection, everything else is going good. The baby is growing. The doctor said that every bit of me is baby and I know that's a fact when I feel him in my ribs and bladder at the same time.

Before
After

Well, one more step is done in the getting ready for baby project. My parents came up for the weekend and my dad, brother and Charlie put the laminate floor down in our bedroom. We now have this in both our living room and bedroom. It was something that we had wanted to do for a while. We decided now was just as good a time as any when we found a super after Christmas sell on it at Lowes. The only thing left to do in our room now is purchase our bed and bring the bassinet down from the attic. Next weekend, Charlie will paint Micah's new room and then we will start the process of transitioning him to his toddler bed. There is less then ten weeks to go before the baby arrives, but I think at this pace, we will be ready.
